Overcoming Speed Bumps and Potholes

One night after doing devotionals together, my husband’s prayer was for us to get past the speed bumps and potholes in the road of life. I chuckled at the wording, but this is really true. Life as a follower of Christ is not all sunshine and lollipops but with Him at the center, you can still have joy surrounding you; whereas if a person doesn’t have Christ in their life, things get very hard because they’re not allowing God to take the burdens.

We can find peace in the quiet moments even when there is chaos surrounding us. I personally am not watching much of the news lately. There have been so many wild things happening in our world the past year that is just unbelievable. You wonder what is true and what is not. I have learned more and more that I cannot control these circumstances or people, only my responses, so I pretty much have said more than once, “this is your problem God, not mine. Show me what my part can be, if any”. Many times it is just to be silent and pray. How freeing that is, not to have to solve the world’s problems! But how many of us have tried? You can’t so it is only frustrating to you.

So when we come upon speed bumps and potholes, we can usually see them, but we will have to slow down and navigate around them, or a tire or something you need to make the car work, could come off. We pray through these challenges and find it is really easy to navigate if we slow down. Each prayer spoken is a step towards peace, helping to navigate the twists and turns with grace and patience.

Every challenge is an opportunity to grow stronger, to learn resilience, and to find new paths forward. With renewed faith, we can feel more equipped to embrace the journey ahead, with God by our side, knowing that we are never truly alone.
