“….Do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly.”
Micah 6:8

This verse became profoundly significant to me during a challenging time when one of my blessings was very ill. While we were staying away from home in a place that accommodated those family members whose loved ones were in the hospital, a gentleman handed me a slip of paper with Micah 6:8 written on it.

Once I reached my car, I took out my Bible and read the verse. I reflect on this passage frequently, and it has truly transformed my life. I have no idea who the man was, but I am sure he knew I was struggling. You never know how your words can completely change your life.

The Call to “Act Justly”
We are called to live with an awareness of right and wrong. Specifically, the responsibility of safeguarding the innocent. Injustice is a pervasive issue that causes much suffering within society. Micah’s plea to “act justly” serves as a reminder to us that true justice extends beyond obeying the law but demands a commitment to fairness and integrity in every facet of life.

This involved standing up for those without a voice and ensuring that the marginalized and vulnerable are not ignored or mistreated. By highlighting the importance of justice, we are encouraged to build a community where compassion and honesty flourish, ultimately fostering a society in which everyone can live in unity. The problem is not everyone has the same moral compass.

The Call to “Love Mercy”
This is “loving-kindness,” highlighting the importance of mercy in conjunction with justice. They are fundamental aspects of God’s character and serve as essential principles for any relationship. In a world often filled with discord and conflict, embodying these traits can pave the way for healing and reconciliation.

Mercy encourages compassion and understanding. It prompts us to extend grace. By practicing mercy alongside justice, we contribute to a more harmonious society, reflecting the divine qualities that inspire us to strive for a higher standard of living.

The Call to “Walk Humbly”
This reflects the heart’s posture toward God. His people rely on Him rather than themselves. Through this journey, we learn to listen more deeply, embrace kindness, and act justly in our relationships with others. This mindset cultivates a sense of gratitude and reverence, recognizing that every blessing and strength originates from God.

In our humility, we discover the freedom to serve others selflessly, uplift those in need, and foster a community rooted in compassion and understanding. By walking humbly, we invite the limitless potential of love and grace, creating a ripple effect capable of transforming hearts and lives.
