Do you remember this picture from long ago? It is of Jesus knocking on the door signifying He wants to be invited into your heart, your home. Something I realized awhile back is that there is no handle on the outside of the door….no way to get in….This changed the entire picture for me!!
Jesus is a gentleman. He will not barge into your home, your life, without you inviting Him in. This is your choice, no one else’s.
When I talk with people all over the globe, I tell them all about my God and what He has done in my life. I have literally been able to talk about something in my life to each person, depending on what their questions are or where they are at in life. It is so cool how God connects us together, with just the right people, and I don’t believe in coinsidence.
I tell them that this is their choice whether or not to ask Jesus into their life. They come because they are searching for answers and I love how we can respectfully listen to each other. No one putting up defenses needed.
Recently, I had a conversation with a young man who was raised in the Mormon faith, and he reached out to discuss his doubts about what he has been taught. When I asked him about his beliefs regarding the Trinity, he expressed that this is where he encounters difficulty, as his religion does not support that concept. He mentioned that he is beginning to consider the existence of the Trinity. It can be challenging to understand until the blinders are lifted.
As our conversation continued, he heard the Gospel and asked, “What should I do?” Occasionally, individuals may want to debate or persuade me that their perspective is correct, so I was uncertain if he was trying to test my response. However, I will neverengage in an argument, as that benefits no one. Instead, I chose to share my own story which no one can deny.
Here’s the thing. I am confident in Whom I believe in because I have clearly seen His Hand throughout my entire life, specifically really seeing God as real when I was about 11 or 12, and as God continues to transform my life through studying His Word, I see more in more. He really is in all the details, big and small.
So, I simply told him what I have told many others….
I cannot tell you what to choose. That is your choice alone, no one else’s. I am not the Holy Spirit. I cannot convict you or change your mind. I am simply telling you that I have seen God work in my life time and again and of all the religions I have looked into, I decided there is no religion at all that I want to be a part of. Religion is filled with rules and rituals that many times is all about going through the motions. That doesn’t sound like freedom to me. How about you?
As our conversation continued, he heard the Gospel and asked, “What should I do?” Occasionally, individuals may want to debate or persuade me that their perspective is correct, so I was uncertain if he was trying to test my response. However, I will never engage in an argument, as that benefits no one. Instead, I chose to share my own personal life story which no one can deny. It really is the best testimony to who God is.
And you never want to push someone into what you believe as it is a slippery slope. Many may say they want to follow the Lord but may only be saying what you want to hear. Or have you seen at a VBS of something similar when someone says, “Who wants to ask Jesus in their heart?” (this phrase is not biblical) And all of a sudden many hands go up. I cringe when I think of this.
I have seen and heard of many people “saying the prayer” (another unbiblical phrase) and yet “walk away” from the Lord. The enemy loves people to just say the “right thing” because then they are still his. Of the people I talk to, many believe they are saved, only to find out they really weren’t. Just think of how many people will think they are saved but will hear, “depart I knew you not”.
Preachers, Sunday School teachers, parents, children, siblings, friends, you name it, anyone can hear that. I had a friend who I thought was saved all these years and she thought so, too, but when I talked to her in depth about her beliefs, I found out she was not saved. I couldn’t believe I had known her for 20 years but she said and did all the right things. Praise the Lord, her eyes were open a month before she passed. Click here to read part of her story. Someday I will write more about her.
So then I get asked, “if you aren’t religious, then what do you believe?”
- I believe that God the Father created me and you for a good plan and purpose.
- I believe that God the Son, Jesus, was sent to earth to die for my sins and yours. This is why we no longer need priest to slaughter animals to pay for our sin debt. Thank God! There is nothing I can do to save myself so I needed a “Sin Eater” who was blameless and able to cover all my sin. Jesus was The Last Sin Eater. Click here for the trailer. I do believe it is old enough you can watch it online and it’s the perfect timing for Passover. This movie has brought many to a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
- I believe in God the Holy Spirit, Who, when I gave my life to follow the Lord, comes into me to guide and direct me, to help me and comfort me.
- I am a Christ follower, and because I am, I have realized more and more my desire to share my story with anyone who wants to listen because perhaps that will draw them to my Savior, too.
I watched The Passion of the Christ years ago and had to cover my mouth in the theatre as I could not stop sobbing realizing what Jesus did for me and for you! I had never realized what goes into a crucifixtion. I have never watched it since, but it is a powerful movie to watch. This, too, is probably available for free online. Click here to watch the final scene.

So do you hear Jesus knocking at the door of your heart? Do you find yourself missing something in your life, like there is a hole in your heart? I would suggest that if your religion isn’t working for you, if your god has done nothing for you, if you are uncertain of where you will live forever and you want confidence, give Jesus a try. He loves you so very much. Talk to Him out loud. Read His Word out loud. (start in the book of John) He desires to go through life with you, forever, into eternity.
Take the step of faith to give your life to Christ. There are no special words to say. You must simply believe that He is Who He says He is. You must admit you’re a sinner in need of a Savior. It is only by His grace that we are set free. We don’t know what tomorrow brings. Today may be it for many of us. To not make a choice is making a choice to reject Him. He waits for you at the door….
