Turning Bedtime Stories into Treasured Moments

June 20, 2026

You may….or may not….be wondering what I have been up to lately. When I was unable to get around after last surgery, I had three months to do a lot of writing and projects. I have been working with different ministries to help spread the word of their needs.

I still have things I want to do but because I had all that time, I wrote my blogs ahead of time and dated them to be released on certain days, which is so nice I can do that but now that I am back to being active again the past month I have no more to write in advance and release on certain days, so my writings will be few again. But that is okay. Things ebb and flow and I will be drawn back to writing here and there.

Besides writing one of my blessings a song during this down time, I did another big project that I wanted the draft done by Father’s Day. One of the most amazing things that has always made my husband a good father is that he was intentional to spend time with them. We started when they were very little with family nights, date nights, girls nights, boys nights. I don’t think that comes natural to most guys honestly. We would always read to our children but my husband reading to our children before bed became their greatest bonding times. He had a special series of books that he would read to each child as they got older.

I still hold those memories dear. Among them were the Danny Dunn series and the Chronicles of Narnia for one child. There were also the Elsie Dinsmore series for another, the Nancy Drew series for another, and The Bear series for another. With our youngest blessing, he used his imagination to craft delightful stories off the top of his head. As the years passed, they would build upon these tales each night. I loved listening to him read to the children and when I would peak in they would be snuggled up against him, intently listening.

Many years ago I said that some day I was going to put these stories into a book, not just for a keepsake for them but I do believe if we are purposeful in what we do every day, we can make a difference in other’s lives as well. I do believe these book series, of only one which is being put in book form presently, will encourage parents to make the most of every opportunity with their children.

It is not the money you spend on your children, or the vacations, but it is the little moments in time that will actually be treasured for years to come. Tucking our children into bed was one of the most valuable things ever for all of us. This has been two decades in the making! all starting with simple imagination. It wasn’t until recent that it became a book.

I will share a couple samples here in this blog but this story is coming to a bookstore near you in the next few weeks. So there are some things in the book that are very noticeable. Yes, my girlie liked to run around barefoot so in the entire book I made her barefoot. Her favorite colors then were pink and green so I tried to keep the colors not boring but played off of those two colors. In this first book, she has a “burst of royal energy”. Yes, she was and still can be the Energizer Bunny. Another scene in the book is where the bathtub is filled to the top with bubbles and ducks because she never liked getting cleaned up. Many things we laugh about. When we surprised my husband with this book last night, I read it and he just grinned….a lot!
