I am not one to follow football, but over the years, my husband and youngest girlie love to spend time watching Football together. My husband’s favorite team is the Cowboys, since he was a child where he attended church with some of the Redskins. So, of course, my girlie’s favorite team is Cowboys, though the Patriots and the Kansas City Chiefs are just as important to her. I personally like to watch any two teams who can play a good honest game together.
Most Mondays they will follow the game and check in on how teams are doing, especially this close to the Super Bowl. Last night wasn’t any different. After doing devotionals and praying, my husband turned on the game to see how things were going. It was an eeery feeling to watch as nothing was as it should be…someone was injured, but it went beyond an injury. I said, “something is not right”. To see a replay that looked like any other play and then to see the knees buckle of the player as he fell flat on his back was shocking. A young, overall healthy player, shouldn’t have this happening. It was surreal.

Immediately my daughter said, “We MUST pray NOW!” So my girlie led us in a prayer for, Buffalo Bills, Damar Hamlin. Her prayer was fervent and brought me to tears.
She said, “LOOK at all the people on the field PRAYING!” She then snapped this picture from the television. Who knew if this amazingly beautiful visual would ever be shown again?
“My help comes from Yahweh, Who made heaven and earth.”
Psalms 121:2
We watched for another hour and the tears came to see people coming together, looking to God for help.
My girlie later then comes to me to show me a picture she made to put on our prayer board. We will remember to keep him, his family, and care team in our prayers.

There were a couple things I wanted to share about this young man. In 2021, when being chosen for a team to play for, he mentioned “God’s plans” for his life. I wish I could find the article, but if someone has it, please send it to me so I can link it. I do believe God puts people in places to be able to be used for His good purposes.
He was also recently interviewed making mention of how life can change so quickly after a teammate had been injured and that he wanted to appreciate every moment. These are not exact words I am sure, but again, if you have the article, would you please share it with me?
I do believe that God puts people in places to be used for His good purposes. Hamlin could’ve passed out anywhere, BUT GOD allowed for this to happen front and center on Live television where millions were watching. I do believe God will use this hard time for His glory in MANY people’s lives.
One thing I want to point out is that people were praying to not just any god, but to the one and only God who hears us.
“O God, hear my prayer; Give ear to the words of my mouth.”
Psalms 54:2
“Therefore let us draw near with confidence
to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy
and find grace to help in time of need.”
Hebrews 4:16
I happened to see last night that Tim Tebow and Emmitt Smith standing in the gap for him as well as so many others, asking for God’s mercy and grace. Let’s all fervently pray, in confidence, that God will use this difficult time to draw many to Him.
My biggest prayer overall since last night has been, if it is God’s will, for Hamlin to make a full recovery, doing a miracle in his life, for the whole world to see. I pray that if this happens, that Hamlin will come out on top, serving the Lord fully and giving Him praise all the rest of his days. There will be so much opportunity for him to share what God has done in his life. I pray this for his family as well!
If you are encouraged, please subscribe and share!
Blessings,
Jennifer
