The Power of Midnight Prayer: Fighting Darkness with Faith

June 2, 2020

I understand that because we are all human and sinful, there will be evil in the world until Christ returns.

Last year, I was researching about why so much evil happens in the dark. What I found intrigued me, causing an aha moment. Eureka!

Did you know that demons are most active when it is physically dark?

“The murderer arises at dawn; he kills the poor and the needy, and at night he is a thief.” Job 24:14
“…he takes the way to her house, in the twilight, in the evening, in the middle of the night, and in the darkness.” Proverbs 7:8-9

What happens at night?

  • Wild animals seek their prey. When we had five acres of land, we had cameras that showed wildlife active throughout the night.
  • Most witchcraft takes place in the middle of the night.
  • A sign at a hotel located in Queens, New York, where bars are on all windows, says to go out after dark “at your own risk”.
  • Anxiety can get much worse, as the evening settles, with mental games.
  • Affairs, “gentlemen” clubs, prostitution, and sex trafficking is most common after dark.
  • Looting, rioting, and vandalism seem to be most prevalent when the sun goes down.

We can wonder why these things don’t happen in broad daylight, but it’s probably obvious most people don’t want to be caught. Some may not care that others know what they do; however, for the most part, I believe people don’t want to get caught and bear the consequences.

Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night feeling prompted to pray for someone? OR have you been woken up and you have no idea why and sometimes even get angry because you can’t sleep as well as some people can? I have…..to both. My thoughts, from over the years, are that there is a REASON you are not sleeping, and I do believe more and more, it is because you are suppose to be praying. Don’t waste the opportunity to PRAY.

Did you know that many people from the Bible prayed in the middle of the night? Praying at midnight looks to be the most inconvenient yet powerful time to pray because of the demonic activity taking place. Midnight through 6a.m. is considered night; therefore, 3a.m. is the middle of the night.

“She weeps bitterly in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks.” Lamentations 1:2
“At midnight, I shall rise to give thanks to You because of Your righteous ordinances.” Psalm 119:62
“About midnight, Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns of praise to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.”
Acts 16:25
“When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches.” Psalm 63:6
“Then the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a night vision.” Daniel 2:19

It is my hope and prayer, now more than ever, that everyone has their eyes opened wide to the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. I pray that many come to Jesus, now more than ever, take His Word seriously, and start fighting this battle, along with all the other children of the King of Kings, on bended knee.

Blessings,
Jennifer

  1. Good insight/fact. In the Gospel of John, Jesus tells Nicodemus in 3:19 that people love darkness more than light because of their evil actions.

  2. Amen! This is a good note to ponder. Thank you for that. You are right. We are often prompted to pray for people at night.
