Embracing the Proverbs 31 Woman: Part Six

March 24 , 2026

Her husband is known at the gates where he sits with the elders of the land – verse 23….

To put this into today’s application, describing my husband, he’d be the king of locksmiths, hobnobbing with the elite of the lock and key universe. Picture them swapping tales of mind-boggling mechanisms and clever hacks. These locksmith gurus share both wisdom and belly laughs, their nimble fingers adept at forging security. In this merry band, my husband would find both joy and prestige, his name synonymous with trust and skill in the locksmith arena.

How do you speak of your husband? Do you lift him up or do you tear him down? Consider how you treat him in the presence of his friends and family. I recall working with a woman who was incredibly kind to me, but her demeanor completely changed when her husband visited. She spoke to him in a way I had never witnessed before, belittling him and using harsh language. He appeared to accept this as normal, looking timid and embarrassed, yet she was the one who should have felt ashamed for her hurtful words. Everyone around me should hear me speak positively about my husband.

She makes linen garments and sells them and gives belts to the tradesmen. – verse 24….

As I have said before, I have never possessed a strong skill for sewing, which may account for my initial hesitation to engage with this passage. At first, I assumed Proverbs 31 should be my identity and I was failing terrible at it. However, the understanding that the character embodies qualities that I can embrace in contemporary life has shifted my perspective.

There are many opportunities for us to explore diverse avenues for generating supplementary income. Returning to the topic of thrift shopping, numerous establishments will purchase your clothing on the spot, often offering more than one might earn from a garage sale. I have done this and if one place doesn’t take something, take it to the next place, and so on. In the end if you donate it to a friend or something like Goodwill, you are still blessing another.

On the side we have made soap, jewelry, and items suitable for laser engraving such as wallets or coasters, along with freeze-dried candy. We also utilize a 3D printer, and I have designed custom t-shirts. While these activities may not generate substantial income, they do provide a welcomed source of extra spending money. Additionally, I know several individuals who donate plasma as a means to supplement their income.

Important take aways to apply to our lives….

  • What are some things you can say to encourage your husband?
  • What can you say to your family or friends that is positive about your husband?
  • Are there ways that you supplement your income or have some ideas you’d like to try?
